8 New Species of Coral Fish, Found in Bali

Scientists from Conservation International discovered eight new species of reef fish and a new coral species in Bali. The species is believed to be a typical species of Bali, rather than migration from other regions. Thus was launched the AFP news agency.

Species of fish include eel groups, damsels, and colorful fish. "We have conducted marine surveys in 33 places in Bali and has identified 952 reef fish and we found eight new species," said team adviser Mark van Nydeck Erdmann.

Marine surveys carried out in the popular tourist area northeast of Tulamben, dicing area, Nusa Dua, Gili Manuk, and Pemuteran at a depth of 10 to 70 meters. The results were considered surprising because Bali has a high fish biodiversity.

The new species discovered have not named, but each entry in the genus Siphamia, Heteroconger, Apogon, Parapercis, Meiacanthus, Manonichthys, Grallenia, and Pseudochromis. While the coral species found included in the group Euphyllia.

Because these fish species was first discovered in Bali, scientists assumed that all the species typical of Bali. Along with that discovery, scientists said that the condition of coral reefs is currently better than 20 years ago.

In the midst of the discovery of new fish species, it appeared that some commercial fish species such as grouper, napoleon, and sharks, are hard to find. This proves the existence of overfishing so as to demand the arrest of control.
